Food Safety Management System
ISO 22000:2018
ISO 22000 food safety management systems is an international standard which specifies the requirements for a food safety management system. It involves interactive communication, system management, prerequisite programmes and HACCP principles.
ISO 22000:2005 sets out the requirements for a food safety management system and can be certified to. It maps out what an organization needs to do to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe. It can be used by any organization regardless of its size or position in the food chain.
Increasingly companies within the food chain must be able to demonstrate an effective HACCP system, depending on varying local and national requirements. Meeting local food hygiene regulations and applying hazard analysis techniques, such as HACCP, add to what may already seem to be a complex and daunting process for those in the food chain.
Standard that is relevant to all parts of the food supply chain regardless of size, from 'farm to fork' it is also applicable to suppliers of non-food products and services, like cleaning, equipment manufacturers and transport companies. It's suitability for all stakeholders in the chain also makes it an ideal tool to implement HACCP throughout the food supply chain.
